The Inception Workshop on Water Smart Irrigation Study in the Nile Basin was held from the 16th to the 17th with the objective of consulting and gathering feedback from stakeholders and the Technical Working Group of the Nile Basin Water Resources.Β 

The workshop included representatives from the three centers of Nile-Sec, ENTRO, NELSAP-CU, as well as experts from the World Bank. The focus of the workshop was to review and provide feedback on the methodology proposed by the Consultant.

The specific objectives of the workshop are to:

  • Provide an overview of the scope and objectives of the study.
  • Assess and provide feedback on the consultant approach and methodology presented in the draft inception report.Β 
  • Increase stakeholders’ awareness of cutting-edge water smart irrigation to enhance irrigation efficiency in the Nile Basin.

The workshop participants consist of experts and Technical Working Group (TWG) members from the Nile Basin countries, such as Burundi, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda. In addition, experts from Nile-SEC, NELSAP-CU, and consultants are also present at the workshop.

The following outputs has been achieved from the workshop: -

  • assessment and feedback on the consultant approach and methodology presented in the draft inception report, revised methodology and detailed workplan, additional information related to the water smart irrigation in the Nile Basin countries, training and capacity-building plan,Β 
  • Participants awareness on the state of art on water- smart irrigation technologies Β
