The Nile Basin Drought Early Warning System (Nile DEWS) developed, in 2025 at ENTRO, to monitor & forecast meteorological drought, hydrological drought, and agricultural drought in the Nile basin over 84 sub-basins and also at various grid scales to help mitigate the drought impact across the Nile basin. Nile DEWS also integrates users engagement platforms and spatial annual time series of surface water body extent. Initial drought indices link with drought impacts have been done to check the effectiveness of the Nile DEWS. Further work is required to establish firm link between drought indices and impacts on the ground (i.e., crop yield reduction, river flow decline, and groundwater-level decline). The Nile DEWS produces Monthly Drought Forecast Bulletin and Monitor Report to see the details.
