Abstract
Baseline Study is to assess current approaches used in the Nile Basin countries to monitor plastic pollution. It aims to identify relevant organizations across various sectors government, civil society, academia, research institutions, and the private sector and evaluate their gender-disaggregated capacities to implement systematic macro plastic monitoring programmes. The Baseline Study serves as the basis for the development of the Action Plan, which will be the final deliverable of the project.
A review of existing macro plastic monitoring methods found that the most commonly employed methods, both globally and within the Nile Basin, are simple, such as visual counting from bridges or bank surveys.
