Abstract
Volume 3 of the Report of the Regional Power Interconnection Feasibility Study, which is Phase II of the Eastern Nile Power Trade Program. It contains reports from three study modules:
• M4: Technical Specification of the Interconnection, which includes (1) 500 400 kV AC Sub-Stations technical specifications (general description of the three substations (Mandaya, Kosti and Nag Hammadi) involved in the regional interconnection project); Guideline for a turn-key specification of a complete Static Var Compensator connected at the Kosti Substation; telecommunication, SCADA, metering; and (2) HVDC Main Equipment Description – of the two HVDC stations (Kosti and Nag Hammadi) involved in the regional interconnection project, detailing the main equipment of a HVDC station, typical HVDC losses, and a typical layout for Kosti (Sudan) and Nag Hammadi (Egypt) HVDC Stations.
• M5: Operation and Maintenance, containing the OM strategy for all interconnection infrastructures located in the three countries, in four sub-modules relating to the different equipment types involved by the regional interconnection project: (i) 400 and 500kV substations (including SVC); (ii) HVDC converter stations; (iii) Overhead Lines; and (iv) Control systems, SCADA and metering.
• M9: Training Report, detailing training activities before and during interconnector operation, with operational and maintenance guidelines for future operator management and staff, covering alternative current substations, static var compensator facility, direct current converting stations, physical transmission lines, control centres (main and back-up) equipment and system operation teams.
