Abstract
This Report details the contribution of the power market integration activity to climate mitigation, and has sections on the background, study objectives and tasks, methodology of the study, application of the methodology, the possibility and scope of export of electricity from Ethiopia to Sudan and Egypt, along with conclusions and recommendations. The Study aimed to (i) document how the Eastern Nile Power Trade Project and the Ethiopia-Sudan Transmission Line integrated the energy markets in the three EN countries into one regional market; (ii) analyze how the integration of the markets offers an opportunity for a different screening criterion to be used in selection of new energy sources for the region; and (iii) illustrate, with examples, how integration of three markets can be used within the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) process to secure certified emission reductions(CERs).
