Manual of basic principles used in the design and construction of flood protection embankments and associated structures in Ethiopia, useful for engineers and institutions responsible for designing and constructing flood protection works. It identifies a set of design standards and procedures to be used for the planning, design, construction and maintenance of flood protection embankment mainly associated with irrigation and land development projects in flood plain areas. However, it is general in nature and not intended as step by step design procedures and needs the judgment of the design engineer on a particular project. It was prepared as part of the World Bank supported Flood Preparedness and Early Warning Project Phase I (FPEW I), implemented by ENTRO from 2007 – 2010.
