Bedden Hydropower Plant

Energy Hydro Power Plant

Overview

Summary

Geographic Coordinates: 4° 35' 48" N, 31° 31' 11" E. The project is located on the Bahr el Jebel River, approximately 138 km downstream of Nimule where the Bedden Island divides the river into two branches. The powerhouse site will be located in the right channel and bank of the river. It is expected to house 6 x 87 MW Kaplan units for a total of 522 MW. The spillway, to be constructed in the left channel, will be controlled by twelve (12) 6 m wide bays with 10 m high radial gates. Embankment dams will close the remainder of the site with lengths of 940 m to the left of the spillway and 320 m to the right of the powerhouse respectively. The project will have a maximum gross head of 29 m.

The scheme is designed to have 6 units with a Design Discharge 1,261 m3 /s, Reservoir FSL 496 m and Reservoir MOL 491 m. The Full Storage is 837 hm3 and Live Storage 196 hm3.
