Mugozi Multipurpose Water Resources Development Project

This Project is located in Ngara District, northern Tanzania and was identified and prepared under the Kagera River Basin Project. Project interventions include construction of a 1.8 MW hydropower station, development of 3,000 ha of irrigation land, and provision of domestic water supply.

This project will offer integrated development to the community. It will increase agricultural production in the region by increasing irrigable land and production of energy. It will give clean water to the community. In addition, the project will create permanent jobs, the use of the labor intensive work in implementing the development works.

The catchment management will address the quality and quantity of water in water shed. Many farmers that would encroach on the wetlands and river banks will be accommodated in the expanded irrigable land. Measures will be taken to prevent or reduce erosion.
