NBI Secretariat Celebrates International Women’s Day |

The staff of NBI Secretariat in Entebbe, Uganda, celebrated the International Women’s Day on 10 March 2010.
The celebration started with the message of the Secretary General of the United Nations to mark the occasion, which was read by Ms. Juliet Nakassaga, Gender Focal Point. “This day is an opportunity for all of us – women and men – to unite in a cause that embraces all humankind. Empowering women is not only a goal in itself. It is a condition for building better lives for everyone on the planet,” declared Ms. Nakassaga.

Nile-COM Chair meets Transportation Syndicates from Nile Basin Countries |
On Sunday 21 Feb., 2010; the NILE-COM Chair Prof. Dr. Mohamed Nasr El-Din Allam hosted in his office a high-level delegation from the Transportation Syndicates from most of the Nile Basin Countries. The delegation arrived to Egypt as per furnished invitation from the counterpart Transportation Syndicate of Egypt. They received an overview of the regional cooperation state in the Nile Basin under the evolving cooperation agreements that havebeen crowned by the Nile Basin Initiative since February 1999.

The constructive dialogue and discussions among the delegation members and their colleagues from Egypt resulted in the proposal of establishing T ransportation Syndicates Forum from the Nile Basin Countries as a mechanism for more interaction, awareness raising, good water culture and practice learning and exchange, and cooperation between the workers, technicians and specialists working in the transportation sector in the Nile Basin; as well as the already established Fora for Agriculture Sector Workers; Irrigation Sector Workers, Trade Sector Workers, and the Regional Forum for Workers Union in the Nile Basin

Mr. David Malingha- Doya Wins the 2009 Nile Media Awards |

Mr. David Malingha Doya, journalist at The East African, was the winner of the 2009 Nile Media Awards.
The award giving ceremony, held at the While Horse Inn in Kabale District, southwestern Uganda, was attended by Hon. Maria Mutagamba, Minister of Water and Environment of Uganda, Senior Officials from the Uganda Ministry of Water and Environment, Local Authorities from the Kabale District Local Government, Representatives of the Nile Media Network Chapters, Civil Society, as well as staff of the Nile Basin Initiative. The event took place on 22 February 2010 in conjunction with this year’s Nile Day Regional celebrations.
